Thane's Malanggad funicular train is anticipated to begin operations on January 25 or 26, marking the completion of an 11-year construction period.
The travel time from the base to the hill will reduce from more than 2 hours to just 10 minutes, significantly aiding senior citizens, children, and the differently-abled.
Each of the two operational trains will have two compartments accommodating approximately 120 passengers.
The project faced numerous delays due to challenging terrain and technical issues, with a budget of Rs 93 crore initially planned.
Local residents, including those in the flower business, expect a surge in tourism as the new service alleviates the strenuous climb.
