An eruption of Indonesia's Mount Anak Krakatau on Sunday has led to the suspension of more than 209 flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. The disruption was triggered by volcanic ash detected at the airport, forcing flight operations to be halted until at least 1:30 PM local time, with initial restrictions scheduled until 5:30 AM extending due to safety concerns, according to Reuters and Al Jazeera.

The volcanic ash plume has been reported reaching heights of up to 50,000 feet over the Sumatra side, while on the Java side it reached 20,000 feet. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation noted that the eruption, which occurred at around 3:53 AM, produced significant volcanic activity including loud explosions heard more than 700 kilometers away. Passengers affected by flight cancellations sought refunds as disruptions continued, as stated by India Times and Reuters.
