On August 28, China announced the removal of senior generals Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from their positions in the state Central Military Commission (CMC) amidst ongoing investigations for serious violations of discipline and law. Zhang, serving as vice-chairman of the CMC and a member of the Politburo, along with Liu, who was the chief of the CMC's Joint Staff Department, faced scrutiny since January, leading to their official expulsion during a Standing Committee meeting of the National People's Congress, according to Channel News Asia, South China Morning Post, and Reuters.
