British police have arrested 12 individuals in connection with an alleged "extreme right-wing terrorism-related" threat to an Islamic gathering held in Suffolk from July 9 to 12, which was attended by approximately 15,000 people. The arrests were made across various locations in England following intelligence reports of a potential serious threat to the UK Ijtima event, prompting police to advise an early conclusion to the gathering for safety reasons, according to Indiatimes, Middle East Eye, and Al Jazeera.

The arrests included 11 men and one woman, with ages ranging from 27 to 82, and various locations searched as part of the ongoing investigation. Eight of the men were detained under the Terrorism Act, while others face charges related to conspiracy to commit murder and assisting an offender. The Counter Terrorism Policing department indicated that "we have moved extremely quickly" to thwart the threat, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, according to Middle East Eye and Al Jazeera.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood affirmed that the police's decisive actions "undoubtedly" saved lives and acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding the incident, stressing the need for unity against hatred. The police's swift response is seen as crucial amid reports of increasing racial tensions and hate crimes across the UK, indicating a broader societal issue that police are now navigating, according to Indiatimes, Middle East Eye, and Al Jazeera.
