A cargo plane operated by K2 Airways went missing off the coast of Karachi, Pakistan, while en route from Sharjah, UAE. The Boeing 737 reported a navigation system failure before rapidly descending and losing contact with air traffic control on Tuesday evening at 9:21 PM local time, approximately 155 nautical miles from Karachi, according to BBC and India Times.
After a comprehensive 12-hour search effort involving the Pakistan Navy and civilian agencies, wreckage from the plane was located in the Arabian Sea. Initial reports indicate the wreckage was found about 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, approximately 360 kilometers from Karachi, according to South China Morning Post and India Times.
The five crew members aboard, identified by K2 Airways, include Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris and First Officer Faisal Jatoi, among others. K2 Airways expressed ongoing concern for their safety and commitment to cooperating with the ongoing search efforts, according to Al Jazeera and LA Times.
Despite recovering wreckage, challenging monsoon conditions and the vast search area present significant challenges for rescuers.
