  • Enzo Maresca has been appointed as Manchester City’s new manager.
  • Maresca is replacing Pep Guardiola, who left the club after a successful decade.
  • The Italian manager has signed a three-year contract with the team.
  • He brings prior experience with City, having been an assistant coach and youth team coach.
  • Maresca previously achieved success with Leicester City and Chelsea.

Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as manager to replace departing coach Pep Guardiola next season, the Premier League club announced on Monday. Maresca, who has signed a three-year contract, brings familiarity with City's set-up, having previously coached the club's youth team and served as Guardiola's assistant during City's treble-winning season in 2018-19, according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.

In his first statement as manager, Maresca expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, "Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me," according to South China Morning Post and Al Jazeera.

Maresca's managerial journey began at Parma in 2021, where he faced challenges, winning only four of 14 games. His more recent stints include successes with Leicester City, whom he led back to the Premier League as champions, and Chelsea, where he finished fourth while winning both the Conference League and the Club World Cup, according to South China Morning Post and Reuters.

The recent coaching change comes after Guardiola's departure, who shaped City's position as a dominant force in English football over his decade-long tenure. Guardiola guided City to six Premier League titles, a Champions League crown, and numerous domestic cups before leaving the club, as detailed in reports by Channel News Asia and Al Jazeera.

Maresca is aware of the high expectations as he takes over this prestigious role. “For a manager, that is a dream situation,” Maresca stated, referencing City's organization and support, emphasizing his commitment to building on Guardiola's legacy, according to South China Morning Post and Al Jazeera.
