Claude Guillemot, a co-founder of Ubisoft and chairman of Guillemot Corporation, passed away at the age of 69 in a plane crash on Friday near La Baule airport on France's Atlantic coast. Local authorities reported that both occupants of the Cessna 421 were killed in the incident, which is currently under investigation, according to CBS News and LA Times.
The crash reportedly occurred while Guillemot and a flight instructor were making a landing approach. Witnesses noted that the plane made a sudden turn before it crashed in a field, leading to a fire that required about sixty firefighters to extinguish, according to India Times and Reuters.
Guillemot, alongside his brothers, founded Ubisoft in 1986, transforming it from a mail-order software business into a leading global video game company, known for franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, and Tom Clancy games. Throughout his tenure, he remained a crucial operational figure while his brother Yves served as CEO, as noted by South China Morning Post and CBS News.
