President Donald Trump has announced that he is contemplating cancelling a series of planned concerts commemorating the United States' 250th anniversary, following the withdrawals of several artists. The concerts were set to occur on Washington’s National Mall from June 25 through July 10, 2026, as part of the “Freedom 250” initiative, which aims to celebrate the country’s semiquincentennial with various attractions, including concerts, state pavilions, and exhibitions, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
Bret Michaels, lead singer of the band Poison, became the fifth artist to withdraw, expressing that the event has developed into a politically divisive occasion, contrary to the initially intended nonpartisan celebration format. Other artists like Martina McBride and the Commodores also distanced themselves from the concerts, raising concerns about their participation, according to India Times.
In light of these cancellations, Trump proposed on social media the idea of holding a rally instead of concerts, emphasizing his drawing power as "the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World." He suggested that if artists continue to pull out, the concert series may no longer be necessary, and mentioned he is “ordering [his] Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally,” according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
