Four crew members involved in a mid-air collision of military jets at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show ejected safely on Sunday near Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, according to SCMP and LA Times. The incident involved two E/A-18G Growler jets performing an aerial demonstration when they collided mid-air.
The collision occurred approximately 2 miles from the base during the event, resulting in a fireball upon impact. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the base was temporarily locked down, according to reports from Reuters and NPR. The ongoing investigation will determine the specific cause of the collision.
Cmdr. Amelia Umayam, a spokesperson for Naval Air Forces, stated that all four crew members ejected safely and are in stable condition. This air show marked the first event of its kind in eight years, following a previous tragedy in 2018 when a pilot lost their life, reported India Times and BBC.
