British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics seeking at least $15 million in damages, accusing the tech giant of using her image without permission to market its television sets. The lawsuit alleges that Samsung featured a copyrighted image of the singer on retail packaging for televisions, misleadingly creating the impression of her endorsement of the products, according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.
The image in question, taken during Lipa's performance at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, was used without her consent on the cardboard boxes of Samsung televisions. The lawsuit claims this action constitutes copyright and trademark infringement, alongside a violation of her publicity rights. Lipa's legal team argues that Samsung’s use of her likeness has led to significant brand dilution, as it falsely implies that she endorses their products, according to BBC and CBS News.
Lipa reportedly learned of the unauthorized use of her image in June 2025 and asked Samsung to cease these actions. However, her requests were allegedly met with disregard. The lawsuit also highlights social media accounts where fans expressed interest in purchasing the TVs specifically because of Lipa's image on the boxes, demonstrating the financial impact of the alleged infringement, as reiterated by Bangkok Post and Channel News Asia.
