Tiger Woods was arrested on March 27 following a rollover car crash near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that Woods' Land Rover flipped onto its side after clipping a pressure-cleaning truck's trailer while attempting to overtake it at high speed. Fortunately, neither Woods nor the other driver sustained injuries, according to SCMP.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies observed signs of impairment. Sheriff John Budensiek stated that Woods appeared "lethargic" but passed a breathalyzer test showing no alcohol in his system. However, Woods refused a urine test, leading to charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Under Florida law, this refusal automatically prevents him from driving for one year, as noted by Channel News Asia and Channel News Asia.
Woods' mugshot sparked widespread concern among fans, who expressed sadness over his situation, describing it as a stark contrast to his former glory as a dominant athlete. Following the crash, Woods was released on bail later that night and appeared visibly upset upon leaving the jail, as reported by India Times and India Times.
The incident marks Woods' second DUI charge, following a previous arrest in 2017 when he was found asleep behind the wheel, attributed to a mix of prescribed medications. It's been suggested that this time as well, medication may have played a role in his impairment, although no illegal substances were suspected. Critics have pointed to a pattern of reckless driving, and insiders have expressed concern over Woods' health and driving habits, according to India Times and Al Jazeera.
