A drone attack near Dubai International Airport resulted in a temporary suspension of flights as a precautionary measure on March 16. The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority announced that the action was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, following a significant fire caused by the incident. Fortunately, authorities reported no injuries, according to Channel News Asia.
Witnesses noted substantial flames and smoke originating from the airport complex, as civil defense teams managed to control the fire that threatened a fuel tank in the area. The attacks align with escalating hostilities across the Gulf region, which have seen Iran targeting civilian infrastructure as part of its retaliation against U.S. and allied military actions in the region, according to India Times and Reuters.
Despite an overwhelming number of missile and drone attacks impacting critical infrastructure in the area, the UAE’s defense measures have reportedly intercepted many projectiles, safeguarding major urban centers like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As of now, the Dubai Media Office continues to advise travelers to check with airlines for updates amid disrupted operations, according to AA and Reuters.
