The Sudanese government has dismissed a UN-supported report stating that famine has impacted five regions amid ongoing conflict.
The report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification indicated that 638,000 people are facing famine conditions, with an additional 8.1 million at risk of starvation.
The government criticized the report as speculative and alleged the IPC did not properly consult them or access current field data.
Authorities have been accused of hindering international aid efforts, as the war has led to major food insecurity, with over 24.6 million people affected nationwide.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese government has operated from Port Sudan while Khartoum remains a conflict zone.
