Aubrey Plaza and the family of her late husband Jeff Baena are mourning his loss, referring to it as an "unimaginable tragedy."
In their heartfelt statement, shared on multiple platforms, Plaza expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, "Please respect our privacy during this time." Baena, a prominent filmmaker, tragically passed away by suicide on January 3rd, at the age of 47, in his residence in Los Feliz, California.
The couple, who were together for over a decade before marrying in 2021, collaborated on numerous projects, including Baena's directorial debut Life After Beth (2014) and the 2017 comedy The Little Hours. His career included notable works such as I Heart Huckabees, which he co-wrote with David O. Russell, showcasing his talent in independent cinema.
Plaza was expected to present at the Golden Globes shortly after Baena's passing but chose to skip the event. The film community paid tribute, with director Brady Corbet acknowledging them in his acceptance speech, stating, "My heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff's family." Friends and colleagues have praised Baena for his creativity and warmth, marking his departure as a significant loss in the industry.
