President Joe Biden has signed the Social Security Fairness Act, significantly benefiting payment adjustments for nearly 3 million public service workers.
The legislation targets the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset, which have historically reduced benefits for these workers.
About 2.1 million beneficiaries will see increases averaging $360 monthly by December 2025, with other beneficiaries receiving even more substantial boosts.
The White House emphasized the necessity of the reform, stating that it allows retirees to achieve economic security and dignity after decades of service.
With the changing laws, the Social Security Administration now faces additional administrative challenges amidst a staffing crisis.
