HOUSTON (AP) — In a dramatic finish, the Miami Heat triumphed over the Houston Rockets 104-100, a victory marred by a significant altercation that resulted in six ejections within the final minute. The incident began when Rockets forward Amen Thompson tossed Heat guard Tyler Herro to the ground, prompting chaos on the court with less than 35 seconds remaining in the game.

Herro had already established himself as a key player prior to the altercation, scoring 27 points and contributing effectively to Miami’s comeback after trailing by as many as 12 points. The conflict escalated as both teams' staff and players rushed onto the court to engage in the fray, resulting in ejections of Thompson, Herro, Rockets guard Jalen Green, coach Ime Udoka, and assistant coach Ben Sullivan, along with Miami's Terry Rozier (AP News).

The scuffle overshadowed a tense but thrilling game, where the Rockets failed to maintain their momentum. “They were in each other’s face, bumping chests,” remarked Udoka after the game, highlighting the competitive nature that led to the incident.

Prior to the conflict, Houston was leading at 92-85, but the team fell flat offensively, missing 11 consecutive shots in the fourth quarter. This inconsistency provided the Heat an opportunity to tie the game, which was achieved when Herro set up Haywood Highsmith with a three-pointer with less than five minutes remaining. Herro’s decisive jump shot less than two minutes from the end of the game ensured Miami would not relinquish the lead (AP News).

Missing their second-leading scorer, Jimmy Butler, for a fifth consecutive game, the Heat displayed resilience. Nikola Jovic contributed 18 points, showcasing Miami's depth and strategy adjustment amidst adversity. “We just got to continue to keep getting better,” Herro said, emphasizing the need to build on this success.

The Rockets now face a challenge ahead of their next matchup against Dallas, while Miami looks to maintain their momentum against New Orleans.
