A team from **China’s top government research academy**, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), commits to releasing a RISC-V based processor by **2025**.
The project, known as **XiangShan**, seeks to establish high-performance open-source processors and was initiated in **2019**.
CAS aims for XiangShan to be the **"Linux of processors,"** breaking the stigma around open-source performance and quality.
