DOHA, Jan 5 - A dramatic stoppage-time goal from Ousmane Dembele secured Paris Saint-Germain a 1-0 victory over AS Monaco in the French Super Cup, extending PSG's dominance in the tournament with their 11th win in the last 12 seasons.

The match took place at Doha's Stadium 974, a venue constructed from 974 recycled shipping containers for the 2022 World Cup. Despite creating 27 chances, PSG struggled to find the back of the net until Dembele scored two minutes into injury time, following a crucial assist from Fabian Ruiz.

Coach Luis Enrique praised his team's performance, stating, "It was a great game between two teams who play good football. The result is well deserved and reflects our domination" against one of the best teams in France and Europe. The fixture, originally scheduled to be held in Beijing, was moved to Qatar due to logistical challenges.

PSG had proven their supremacy earlier with a 4-2 victory over Monaco in Ligue 1 last month, further building their confidence as they sought to maintain a strong lead in the league.

The match started with early tension as Desire Doue hit the crossbar within the first few minutes, showing signs of PSG's attacking intent. Monaco's goalkeeper, Philipp Koehn, kept his side afloat with several critical saves against shots from Lee Kang-In and Vitinha as well. Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG’s goalkeeper, also had moments of brilliance, denying attempts from Monaco players like Maghnes Akliouche.

With the game seemingly set for penalties, Dembele's last-gasp effort sent PSG fans into a frenzy, leaving Monaco's coach Adi Huetter to lament, "A goal in the last minute always feels like being stabbed in the back," while acknowledging PSG’s overall control of the match.

PSG's next challenge is a league match against St Etienne on Sunday, while Monaco will face a struggling Nantes team this Friday.
