United Airlines is set to offer Elon Musk’s Starlink Wi-Fi services on its flights, starting with testing in February and a full launch expected this spring. This initiative is indicative of Musk's expanding influence across various industries, reaching beyond merely the tech sector. The first commercial flight equipped with Starlink will operate on an Embraer E-175 aircraft, with plans to outfit the entire two-cabin regional fleet by the end of 2025. Eventually, all United flights will provide this service (Reuters).

While MileagePlus members will have complimentary access to Starlink—which includes streaming, gaming, and shopping features—United has revised plans for general access. Notably, this partnership builds on a deal struck in September between United and Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, designed to enhance in-flight connectivity across United's extensive fleet of over 1,000 aircraft. Other airlines, including Hawaiian Airlines and JSX, have also begun to integrate Starlink services, addressing the growing demand for high-speed internet during flights (CNN).

In-flight internet has evolved significantly since its inception, with Boeing's attempt in 2003 ultimately folding in 2006. The arrival of Starlink marks a revitalization in this sector, promising improved services for air travelers.
