Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit regarding privacy breaches involving its Siri voice assistant.
The lawsuit, initiated in 2019, claimed that Apple recorded user conversations without consent when users inadvertently activated ‘Hey Siri’.
Allegations also include that Apple sold these recordings to third-party advertisers, impacting its reputation for user privacy.
The proposed settlement needs approval from US District Judge Jeffrey White and covers eligible class members potentially receiving up to $20 per Siri device owned.
Despite the settlement, Apple denies wrongdoing, having suspended its quality control program that involved reviewing Siri recordings since the lawsuit began.
