Irene Poon, an American photographer, grew up in San Francisco's Chinatown, where her father ran an herbal medicine shop.
Her photography, including a striking image of her sister Virginia in a sweet shop, captures intimate moments within the community.
Poon, now 83, contributed to the San Francisco State University art department for 45 years, curating over 300,000 images.
This image will be featured in a significant exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, starting on February 7, showcasing American photography in Europe.
The exhibition includes works by renowned artists such as Robert Frank and Diane Arbus, highlighting diverse expressions from the 19th century to today.
