SAN FRANCISCO—Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga sustained a sprained right ankle during the closing minutes of the first half in Golden State's 121-113 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. Following the injury, coach Steve Kerr indicated that Kuminga is expected to miss some time, with the forward set to undergo an MRI exam.

Kerr noted, “It’s not going to be a day-to-day thing, it was a significant sprain. We’ll just have a report tomorrow.” This injury comes as a setback for the Warriors as Kuminga had been averaging 16.9 points this season, making him the team’s second-leading scorer behind Stephen Curry. In the game, he was limited to 13 points over 15 minutes of play.

Kerr stated, “It’s going to be tough. JK's been playing the best basketball of his career these last couple weeks, so we’re going to miss him. But Kyle will fill in well.” In Kuminga's absence, Kyle Anderson is expected to see increased playing time. Anderson expressed his readiness, saying, “I’ve done my work already while not playing. It’s just a matter of going out there and playing basketball." He aims to continue his improvement and support his teammates when needed.

The Warriors, relying on their deep roster throughout the season, are optimistic about filling the gap left by Kuminga’s injury. Kerr emphasized, “I’m just glad we have the depth that we do by way of Kyle. We added a lot of depth for this reason, to be able to withstand some injuries.”
