Malaysia’s coastguard has announced an increase in patrols to find boats with undocumented migrants from Myanmar.
Nearly 200 undocumented Myanmar migrants were detained on Langkawi after their boat landed on the resort island.
The coastguard reported the presence of two additional boats carrying migrants, but their locations remain unknown.
Authorities are working with Thai officials for better tracking of the migrant boats in the region.
The Rohingya, a persecuted minority group, have been fleeing Myanmar due to severe military actions since 2017. Malaysia, however, has recently tightened measures against undocumented migrants.
