Heavy security presence has been established in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, after the injury of Superintendent of Police (SP) M Prabhakar in a mob attack.
The attack occurred in response to the deployment of central armed forces in the area, leading protesters to target the SP's office with stones and petrol bombs.
Prabhakar was injured by a projectile but is currently stable and directing response operations.
Clashes were linked to ongoing tensions between Kuki organizations and authorities over the forceful occupation of community bunkers during security operations.
Since May 2023, ethnic violence has resulted in over 250 deaths and widespread displacement within the Meitei and Kuki communities.
