85 Hong Kong-listed companies have not complied with a new rule mandating the presence of at least one woman on their boards.
This regulation was enforced by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) to enhance gender diversity, initiated following a 2020 survey revealing that about 40% of firms had all-male boards.
The deadline for compliance was set for this past Tuesday, affecting about 3% of the exchange’s 2,650 listings.
Many of the companies that remain non-compliant have plans to appoint women within the next three to six months.
By 2025, having single-gender boards will no longer be permitted on HKEX markets, promising future opportunities for female directors.
