Blaze Bernstein, a pre-med student at the University of Pennsylvania, was murdered in January 2018 after meeting a former classmate.
Samuel Lincoln Woodward was convicted of first-degree murder with a hate crime enhancement and sentenced to life imprisonment.
A new 20/20 episode titled "The Last Text" features exclusive family interviews and insights from the detectives involved in the case.
The Bernstein family experienced significant turmoil after Blaze's disappearance, leading to a complex investigation and media involvement.
Woodward's defense claimed the murder was not premeditated, attributing it to personal struggles, which the prosecution contested with evidence of his affiliation with extremist groups.
