In a tragic incident, the bodies of a British woman and her fiancé were discovered in separate rooms at a tourist villa in Vietnam. Local authorities identified the victims as Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Els Quinton, 36, who were found by staff on Boxing Day, December 26, 2023, at approximately 11:18 AM local time (04:18 GMT) in Hội An, located in the central Quang Nam province.
Reports indicate that Otteson's body was located on her bed on the first floor, while Quinton was found in another room, also on a bed. Notably, the rooms were locked from the inside, and a forensic examination revealed no signs of physical trauma or violence. There were also no indications of a break-in, leading investigators to examine other factors surrounding the deaths.
The couple had been staying at the Hoa Chuong villa since July. Both had large social media followings; Otteson worked as a social media marketing manager, while Quinton was a musician and livestreamer. Local media reported that several empty alcohol bottles were found at the scene, possibly suggesting a cause for concern.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities” (The Guardian). A friend of Quinton shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, remembering him as a "fierce friend" who lived life fully.
Due to the circumstances surrounding these tragic events, an investigation is actively ongoing to determine the cause of their deaths.
