The FBI has made a historic seizure of over 150 homemade explosive devices from a Virginia man, Brad Spafford, during a search on December 17, 2023.
Investigators described this as potentially the largest stockpile of finished explosives ever collected in a single operation by the agency, found primarily in a detached garage at Spafford's home.
Spafford, 36, faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and is accused of possessing dangerous homemade devices, some labeled as "lethal."
Federal prosecutors expressed concerns over Spafford's inclination towards violence, citing statements he made about political assassinations and his alarming interest in creating improvised explosives.
While Spafford's defense argues there's no evidence of a planned attack, prosecutors maintain that his actions and statements pose a significant threat to public safety.
