ROTHBURY, Mich. — Authorities are investigating human remains found near the site of the Electric Forest music festival in northern Michigan, potentially connected to the case of Kevin Graves, a Detroit man who disappeared during the event in 2018. State police confirmed on X that a positive identification of the remains is yet to be determined pending autopsy results and further investigation.
Investigations began when remains were discovered in a wooded area adjacent to Rothbury, where the popular festival takes place annually. Local forensic anthropologists from Western Michigan University are involved in the effort to uncover further details. Despite the ongoing investigation, there has been no update from state police since the initial findings.
Kevin Graves was 28 years old when he was last seen attending the festival in 2018. Reports indicated he was acting “odd all week” leading up to his disappearance, suggesting he had experienced paranoia and conflict with a girlfriend before heading back to his tent from an event. After his notable absence, police conducted extensive searches employing dogs, volunteers, and divers to explore nearby lakes, yet his whereabouts remained a mystery.
The case has remained a painful chapter for Graves’ family, who have actively pursued leads since his disappearance. Kevin’s father, Gary Graves, emphasized the family's determination, stating, “I don’t care if I go broke. I’m gonna keep trying my best.” His efforts included attending the festival annually to distribute missing persons flyers and securing a billboard that displayed his son’s details in 2023 as part of a community outreach campaign. Following the recent discovery, Gary has been anxiously awaiting confirmation from authorities regarding the remains found in the area surrounding a festival that holds deep emotional significance for his family.
