Renowned rock star Neil Young has announced his decision to withdraw from the Glastonbury 2025 lineup, voicing concerns that the festival is now "under corporate control" due to the BBC’s involvement. Young shared his sentiments in a heartfelt note posted on his official website, stating that he and his band, The Chrome Hearts, were looking forward to performing at what he described as one of his "all time favorite outdoor gigs" but felt compelled to decline.

"We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in," Young wrote. He further emphasized, "It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being" (The Guardian). Young indicated his disappointment, saying, "We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be," and expressed hope of meeting fans at other venues during the tour.

The legendary musician previously headlined the festival in 2009, performing on the Pyramid Stage. His earlier experience involved disputes over how much of his set the BBC could broadcast, with limited coverage leading to dissatisfaction among his fans. The festival, which attracts approximately 200,000 attendees each year, maintains a partnership with the BBC that dates back to 1997.

For the upcoming 2025 edition, which will take place from June 25 to 29, other rumored performers include Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Eminem, and Rod Stewart, who has been announced as an official headliner after a significant hiatus from the festival (BBC). Tickets for the festival sold out in just 32 minutes, reflecting its immense popularity.

Young's withdrawal highlights a growing sentiment among artists regarding corporate influence in the music industry, marking a significant moment as fans and fellow musicians reflect on the evolving nature of major music festivals.
