Bangladesh's educational curriculum is being significantly revised. New textbooks will attribute the 1971 declaration of independence to Ziaur Rahman instead of 'Bangabandhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prof. AKM Reazul Hassan announced that revisions will state Ziaur Rahman declared independence on March 26, 1971.
The changes aim to remove what some call "exaggerated, imposed history" regarding the independence narrative.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, previously considered the key figure in the liberation movement, had his title and representation removed amid political shifts.
This alteration follows Sheikh Hasina's departure from power, with prior steps taken to diminish Mujib's legacy in public commemorations and currency.
