Fiji Police Investigate Alleged Rape and Theft Involving Virgin Australia Crew

Credited from: SCMP

Fiji police are currently conducting an investigation into a serious incident involving two crew members from Virgin Australia, who were allegedly victims of rape and theft in the early hours of New Year's Day. The crew members were in the popular tourist destination of Nadi on a layover before their scheduled flight the next day, as reported by the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

According to the findings, several crew members had visited a nightclub in Nadi that evening. "Unfortunately, two of the crew members were victims of an alleged theft and rape after exiting the nightclub trying to find their way back to the hotel," Chew explained, noting that the investigation is ongoing.

Virgin Australia has acknowledged the incident and dispatched support personnel to Fiji but has not disclosed further specifics. A representative from Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed awareness of the incident but, due to privacy obligations, could not provide additional information. The incident underscores concerns regarding the safety of tourists in popular destinations like Fiji, which welcomed 76,845 visitors in November alone, primarily from Australia, New Zealand, and North America.
