SEOUL, Jan 2 - In a decisive response to the tragic crash of Jeju Air flight 7C2216 that claimed the lives of 179 individuals, South Korea's acting President Choi Sang-mok has mandated immediate inspections of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the country. The crash occurred after the jet belly-landed at Muan International Airport, tragically bursting into flames after colliding with a rigid embankment.

Choi emphasized during a disaster management meeting that “immediate action must be taken” should any problems be detected in the inspections. The cockpit voice recorder's data conversion is expected to be finalized by Friday, offering crucial insights into the final moments of the ill-fated flight, as noted in a report by Reuters.

The unfortunate incident, which transpired while the aircraft was en route from Bangkok to Muan, saw only two crew members survive, both located at the tail of the aircraft. South Korean police have commenced investigations, including searches of Jeju Air’s headquarters and the operations of Muan International Airport, as indicated by the Reuters report. Authorities aim to seize relevant documents concerning operational maintenance and airport facility conditions.

Air safety experts are raising concerns over the design of the embankment that was too close to the runway and questioned why the aircraft failed to deploy its landing gear properly. “This rigid structure proved catastrophic when the skidding aircraft made impact,” stated expert Najmedin Meshkati, illustrating the critical flaws in safety measures.

The investigation is unfolding with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As these investigations continue, Choi has also made it clear that all efforts are to be directed towards aiding the families of the victims amidst the ongoing inquiry, while also addressing the spread of misinformation on social media.

In summary, the South Korean government is prioritizing a comprehensive review of aviation safety protocols as communities react to the nation’s deadliest aviation disaster.
