Authorities have identified Matthew Livelsberger, an active-duty U.S. Army soldier, as the individual who died in the Las Vegas Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside President-elect Donald Trump's hotel. According to multiple reports, including SFGate, Livelsberger was found inside the truck packed with firework mortars and camp fuel canisters.
Law enforcement officials revealed that Livelsberger, belonging to the respected Green Berets, sustained a gunshot wound to the head that authorities believe was self-inflicted, prior to the explosion. A handgun was located at his feet, and investigators suspect he intended to cause further destruction, although the explosive setup was considered rudimentary, as noted by SCMP.
The incident occurred on the same day as another tragedy in New Orleans, where 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar drove into a crowd, killing at least 15 people. Both men had previous ties to Fort Bragg, now known as Fort Liberty, although officials affirm there is no connection between the two cases.
Following the explosion, several people nearby sustained minor injuries, but damage primarily occurred inside the truck. Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that “the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb” carried in the vehicle, emphasizing the explosion’s independence from the truck itself HuffPost.
This tragic incident remains under investigation by local and federal authorities, as they assess the circumstances surrounding Livelsberger's actions and explore any potential links to broader patterns of violence.
