The US Treasury Department has sanctioned Australian David Jonathan Thackray for alleged participation in the global narcotics trade.
Thackray is among 12 individuals and eight entities sanctioned in a broader action against narcotics traffickers by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac).
This sanction does not require criminal prosecution or conviction to be enforced.
Previously, Thackray was incarcerated for importing nearly a kilogram of cocaine into New Zealand in 2014.
Ofac's actions also targeted other individuals involved in drug trafficking, highlighting significant risks related to illicit drug proliferation.
