A total of **13 soldiers** in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been sentenced to **death** for charges including **murder**, **looting**, and **cowardice**.
The sentences were handed down by a military tribunal in **Lubero**, a region experiencing ongoing conflict with the M23 insurgency.
Local officials highlighted that these measures aim to **improve army discipline** due to soldiers abandoning their posts during battles.
Out of **24 soldiers** tried, four received **2-10 year sentences**, six were **acquitted**, and one case has been deferred.
All convicted soldiers plan to ***appeal*** their sentences within the designated five-day period.
