Japan is facing a significant demographic crisis with record low births and a rising number of deaths, leading to a population decrease for 15 consecutive years.
The population currently stands at about 125 million, but projections predict a drop to 87 million by 2070, with a majority being seniors aged 65 or older.
The government plans to invest 5.3 trillion yen (approximately $34 billion) in 2024 to support young families, which includes child allowances and enhanced childcare services.
To tackle work-life imbalance, Tokyo will introduce a four-day workweek for state employees starting April 2025, with options for parents to adjust working hours.
Japan is also loosening immigration policies to attract more foreign workers to combat labor shortages in sectors like elder care and agriculture.
