  • Two Latvian men arrested at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire for breaching security.
  • They are suspected of trespassing and entering a prohibited place.
  • The arrests are not currently linked to a prior incident at RAF Fairford.
  • Counter-terrorism police are investigating the motivations behind their actions.
  • A security patrol discovered them after spotting an abandoned vehicle near the base.

British counter-terrorism police arrested two Latvian men inside RAF Molesworth, a military base in Cambridgeshire, after a breach of its perimeter fence. The arrests follow a heightened state of concern regarding security at military sites, especially following an incident at RAF Fairford last month, where multiple arrests were made in connection with a suspected plot, although authorities stress there is presently no connection between the two cases, according to BBC, Reuters, and Le Monde.

The two men, aged 32 and 36, were spotted after a security patrol identified an abandoned vehicle close to the base on Wednesday night. A small breach in the perimeter led to their subsequent arrest inside the base early Thursday morning. They are currently under suspicion of trespassing and entering a prohibited location under the National Security Act 2023, according to India Times and Al Jazeera.

Helen Flanagan, head of Counter-Terrorism Policing London, confirmed the ongoing investigation but emphasized that there is currently no evidence linking this incident to the previous situation at RAF Fairford. She expressed the importance of understanding any potential motivations related to the men's presence at the base, as police continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the breach, as reported by BBC and Reuters.
