Rescuers in Nepal successfully pulled a Chinese national alive from a hydropower tunnel on Saturday, September 5, 10 days after catastrophic floods devastated the region. The rescue operation, conducted by a joint team comprising the Nepal Army and foreign experts, took place in a trench buried by debris, as emergency response teams intensified their search efforts. The survivor, identified as Luhaitao, was rescued from 225 meters inside the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, and images of his evacuation showed him appearing alert but covered in mud, according to Channel News Asia and Le Monde.

Alongside his rescue, two Nepali hydropower workers were saved the previous day from the Trishuli 3A tunnel, marking a total of three workers pulled from this site amidst a broader crisis where around 900 workers are reported missing across multiple hydropower projects.
