Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP chief, has vocally criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his New Year letter, urging him to "stop lying" and to confront the corruption within the AAP government. Sachdeva asserted that Kejriwal should cease making untrue promises to vulnerable groups like women and senior citizens, particularly emphasizing the poor condition of the Yamuna River. The Delhi BJP has maintained a consistent narrative against Kejriwal's governance, targeting his failure to deliver on promised welfare schemes.
Further intensifying the political discourse, Sachdeva condemned AAP's Pujari Granthi Samman Rashi Scheme, which seeks to provide a monthly honorarium to religious leaders. He accused Kejriwal of exploiting religion for electoral gains, declaring that the AAP only engages with Hindu issues when elections approach.
In a pointed rebuttal, AAP leaders branded the BJP's criticisms as desperate attempts to deflect from its governance record, suggesting that the ruling party should implement similar schemes for pujaris and granthis across their states instead. This exchange follows BJP's recent release of old footage claiming to illustrate Kejriwal's inconsistent rhetoric on Hinduism, attempting to portray him as a "chunavi Hindu." Kejriwal's administration, they contend, has historically disrespected the Hindu community while prioritizing sectarian interests.
The increasing tensions reflect an ongoing battle between the BJP and AAP as the upcoming elections loom, with both parties mobilizing resources to solidify their support bases.
