A ten-member international mountaineering team led by renowned Nepal-born former Royal Marine Nirmal Purja is feared missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak, one of the highest mountains, located in Pakistan's Karakoram range. The avalanche occurred around midday on Thursday, and reports indicate that the team has lost communication since the incident, according to BBC and India Times.

The climbers include five Nepalese, a Pakistani national, an Omani, an American, and a Chinese climber. Nirmal Purja's tracking device still shows movement, suggesting some hope for rescue operations, although poor weather conditions have hampered aerial rescue attempts, according to India Times and Al Jazeera.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan is closely coordinating search-and-rescue efforts and preparing to deploy helicopters as soon as weather conditions allow. "The entire team has reportedly been out of communication since the avalanche," the ACP stated, reinforcing the urgency of the situation, according to Al Jazeera and BBC.
