On Sunday, Romania's air force successfully intercepted a Russian drone over the Black Sea, marking the third drone downed in just three days. According to the Romanian defence ministry, an F-16 fighter jet destroyed the drone around 12 kilometers northeast of the coastal town of Sulina, after it unlawfully entered Romanian airspace. President Nicusor Dan criticized the repeated incursions, stating, "It is inadmissible and intolerable for the Russian Federation to continue violating Romania's airspace, which is, at the same time, NATO airspace and European Union airspace," emphasizing the serious nature of these breaches, according to Reuters and India Times.

Prior to the recent shootdowns, Romania had not destroyed any invading drones since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. The first successful interception occurred on Friday, when a drone was brought down in an uninhabited area, followed by another on Saturday.
