  • An oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile near Oman on July 6.
  • The incident occurred in a crucial shipping lane, the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global oil transport.
  • No casualties or environmental damage have been reported following the attack.
  • The UK maritime agency has advised vessels to travel with caution and report suspicious activity.
  • Iran’s state media indicated prior warnings were given to the tanker before the projectile strike.

An oil tanker off the coast of Oman was set ablaze after being struck by an "unknown projectile," according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred on July 6, approximately eight nautical miles east of Limah in a region critical for global energy transportation, even amidst ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions and peace efforts, as reported by Channel News Asia and South China Morning Post.

The UKMTO indicated that the tanker was traveling southbound when it was hit, igniting a fire on the port side of the vessel. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or environmental damage as a result of the attack, with the agency advising other vessels in the region to 'transit with caution' and monitor for suspicious activities, according to Al Jazeera.
