A fire erupted at Takinogawa Dai-san Elementary School in Tokyo on Friday morning, injuring a total of ten individuals including eight students and two teachers. The blaze started in a room adjacent to the music room on the top floor, quickly leading to the evacuation of approximately 300 individuals, which included students and staff, according to Reuters, India Times, and Channel News Asia.

The Tokyo fire department received the emergency call at around 11 a.m. and dispatched 75 fire engines to the scene. The fire, which resulted in considerable smoke inhalation amongst those evacuated, was extinguished after extensive firefighting efforts that lasted until approximately 1:45 p.m., according to South China Morning Post and Channel News Asia.

Reports state that while most injuries were minor, one teacher suffered a broken hip and two students sustained fractured arms. Many children escaped via windows with assistance from firefighters using ladders, who also described the scene as chaotic due to thick black smoke, according to eyewitness accounts detailed by South China Morning Post and India Times.
