The funeral for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is set to begin on July 4 in Tehran, culminating in his burial in Mashhad on July 9. Originally, the burial was scheduled for March but was postponed due to ongoing conflict, according to Indiatimes and Al Jazeera.
The funeral ceremonies will include three days of mourning in Tehran followed by an additional ceremony in Qom on July 7. This was confirmed by state media, which noted that the start date coincides with the U.S. Independence Day this year, marking its 250th anniversary, according to Reuters and Africanews.
Khamenei was assassinated during an Israeli and U.S. airstrike on February 28, after serving as Supreme Leader since 1989. His death marked a significant turning point in Iran's governance, with his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, emerging as his successor. Mojtaba has remained largely out of public view since the strikes, according to Indiatimes, Reuters, and Africanews.
