The medical condition of Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha has declined due to multiple infections affecting several organs, leading doctors to struggle with her irregular heart rate, as stated by the Royal Palace on May 21. The 47-year-old has been hospitalized since December 2022 after collapsing during a training session. Despite ongoing treatment, her condition remains critical and she has been in a coma since her hospitalization, according to South China Morning Post and Channel News Asia.
The Bureau of the Royal Household reported that the princess has developed a severe abdominal infection resulting in unstable vital signs, low blood pressure, and abnormal blood coagulation. Medical devices are actively used to support her lung and kidney functions, but her overall health continues to decline. "Her condition has continued to deteriorate," the palace emphasized in their latest update, citing an uncontrollable infection impacting her vital organs, as noted by Reuters and Channel News Asia.
Educated internationally, Princess Bajrakitiyabha, known as "Princess Bha," has been influential in advocating for women's rights, particularly in prison reform. Underlining her close relationship with her father, King Maha Vajiralongkorn, she was appointed to a senior role prior to her hospitalization. As the only child of the king's first marriage, her health is of significant public interest, especially amidst Thailand's strict laws related to royal family discussions, highlighted by South China Morning Post and Reuters.
