A temporary exhibition in New York, titled The Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room, showcases nearly 3.5 million pages of documents released by the US Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The documents are organized into 3,437 volumes, making a substantial visual and informational display regarding the financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who had connections to Donald Trump, a subject the exhibition strives to elucidate, according to Channel News Asia, India Times, and Le Monde.
The exhibit, located in Tribeca, invites visitors to view the printed files; however, access for the general public is restricted. This restriction is due to errors by the Department of Justice, which failed to redact the names of some victims in the documents. Exceptions to this restriction are made for certain professionals, including journalists and lawyers, as stated in the reports from Channel News Asia, India Times, and Le Monde.
This initiative aims to raise awareness regarding the intertwining activities of Trump and Epstein, as their relationship reportedly deteriorated after a 2004 property dispute. Trump has publicly distanced himself from Epstein despite appearing in multiple documents from the “Epstein Files”, emphasizing that he has "repeatedly denied any wrongdoing," according to Channel News Asia, India Times, and Le Monde.
David Garrett, one of the project’s creators, voiced that the organization aims to expose "corruption in the United States" and educate the public through such exhibits. He believes there needs to be significant public outcry regarding how the Trump administration handled the release of these documents, asserting that the initiative seeks to foster accountability, as indicated in statements reflected across Channel News Asia, India Times, and Le Monde.
