Early on April 10, San Francisco police arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's home. The attack took place around 4:12 a.m. at Altman's residence, where the incendiary device caused damage to an exterior gate before the suspect fled on foot, according to Business Insider and Reuters.
Following the initial incident, police responded to threats made at OpenAI's headquarters around 5:07 a.m., recognizing the suspect as the same individual from the earlier attack. Fortunately, no one was injured during either incident, and law enforcement has commenced a full investigation, as reported by Los Angeles Times and India Times.
An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the incidents, emphasizing their appreciation for the quick response from the San Francisco Police Department and stating, "Thankfully, no one was hurt," highlighting ongoing security concerns around the company amid heightened scrutiny regarding its role in AI development and military contracts, as mentioned by Al Jazeera.
