  • Sentebale charity, co-founded by Prince Harry, is suing him for defamation.
  • The lawsuit comes after a public dispute over governance with chair Sophie Chandauka.
  • Harry and a trustee were accused of damaging the charity's reputation.
  • The Charity Commission found no evidence of widespread bullying amid the fallout.
  • Sentebale filed the lawsuit in London's High Court last month.

A charity co-founded by Prince Harry in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana, is suing him for defamation. Sentebale, which supports young people living with HIV in Botswana and Lesotho, filed suit last month in London’s High Court. The lawsuit names Prince Harry and his friend Mark Dyer, a former trustee, as defendants in a claim concerning either libel or slander, although no additional documents were available, according to Reuters and BBC.

Disagreements within Sentebale escalated in 2023 regarding a new fundraising strategy, leading both Harry and Prince Seeiso to resign as patrons in March 2025, stating that their relationship with chair Sophie Chandauka had become irreparable. Following their departure, Chandauka accused Harry of conducting a campaign of bullying to influence her removal, claims that were investigated by the Charity Commission, which ultimately found no evidence of such bullying, according to South China Morning Post and Los Angeles Times.

In a statement, Sentebale indicated that the lawsuit seeks "the court’s intervention, protection, and restitution" due to what it describes as a "coordinated adverse media campaign" affecting its operations and reputation since March 2025. Harry's involvement in public disputes over the charity's management has put him in a complex legal position, transitioning from claimant in privacy suits against UK tabloids to a defendant in this case, according to CBS News and Los Angeles Times.
