  • Human remains found on the MV Mayuree Naree, attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Twenty crew members were rescued, while three are missing and presumed trapped.
  • The vessel was previously warned by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
  • The situation follows increased tensions due to US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
  • Thailand’s foreign ministry expressed sadness over the development.

Human remains have been discovered aboard the Thai-flagged cargo ship MV Mayuree Naree, which was attacked by Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz last month, according to Bangkok Post, South China Morning Post, and Channel News Asia.

The ship was struck on March 11 while transiting the waterway, prompting a rescue by the Omani navy, which saved twenty crew members, leaving three others missing and presumed trapped in the ship's engine compartment, amid challenging conditions caused by flooding and fire, reports South China Morning Post and Bangkok Post.

In response to the attack, which came after increased tensions due to US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility, indicating that they struck the vessel for ignoring warnings. The Thai foreign ministry has expressed sadness at the situation and has kept families of the missing informed, according to Channel News Asia and South China Morning Post.
